OUR TRIP TO TANZANIA - NAMANGA to SINYA CAMP

Our trip from Namanga to Sinya Camp initially followed dirt tracks where many other vehicles had traveled. For a short way we traveled near the Tanzania/Kenya border fence. Further out that disappeared because large animals, like elephants, walk right through all but heavily electrified fences. Once we got away from permanent dwellings outside Namanga we were not compelled to follow the tracks; our guide/drivers took out across the savanna. That was bumpy, but no more so than the rutted tracks. We traveled about two hours seeing no large wildlife other than zebras. We saw several Maasai cattle herds going to water, and took a picture of the one below. All of the cattle we saw appeared very thin by our standards of the Western US, but they survive under very harsh conditions. The vegetation in the immediate vicinity of where this image was taken reflected a bit more precipitation than areas a bit further north or south.  Otherwise our camera was idle.
